I already watch "The Age of Stupid". I can say this movie is a documentary film. After that the documentary film being combine it all together to make a movie. What you can see in this movie is that it reveal all about the global warming, conspiracy, corruption and etc. I recommended it to all of you to watch this movie "The Age of Stupid" if you has chance to watch it. Worth to watch it after the "2012". Can't wait to watch it in the local cinema.

I loved Ubuntu 9.04

Guess what?

I suddenly liked this Ubuntu 9.04 OS that much! Haha... At least I'm satisfied with the operating system. Fast loading system and easy to used it (although there something I need to learn to adapt to use the OS)... Well at first, I never think of it to used Ubuntu beside Windows Xp... But because of I'm sick with the virus and my XP become slow then I change to Ubuntu (it cost a lot of money paying for anti-virus software/key and reformat the laptop)... Walla... "This is it" (Tagline for the MJ documentary movie that coming soon in the local cinema), this is the right time to me to explore the new OS... hehe...

My second day of Hari Raya is at McD Seksyen 2. I hang out with my girlfriend and have a real nice meal which I can say that we actually have a dinner there because it almost sunset. Hehe...

Shah Alam become a silent city today

It is like a routine for everyone to going back to kampong every time the festive season is coming such as today the Hari Raya Aidilfitri. For some people, going back to kampong brings the nostalgic memory especially when they celebrate it with their families. Besides that, going back to kampong also is a part of "running away from the busy city", release tension from busy work, and find the peace of a calm village.

Me? Of course I just plan to stay here to feel how it would be like during the Hari Raya at the Shah Alam. Thinking of stayed at my uncle house at Setiawangsa is my last choice unless if I real it like "a dead city with no one here". Hehe... so I go check around and take a picture of it...

After a while silent from the Influenza A H1N1 report, today 2 victims was conform the cause of death is because of Influenza A H1N1.

The first victim was admitted in Tambunan Hospital on 17th of August. She had fever, cough and flu for 3 days. On the same day, she sent to the Keningau Hospital and admitted into the ICU for antiviral treatment. But unfortunately, on the 26th of August, A 45 year’s old lady died because of serious pneumonia. Her death report had been sent to the ministry on the 10th of September to conform her death whether it is because of Influenza A H1N1. She was reported to have severe bronchopneumonia with Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome.

It feels like a long time I didn't go to the Ministry of Health Department website to look at the update case of Influenza A H1N1. Yesterday there is 1 death being reported and conform the cause of death is because of Influenza A H1N1 virus.

My WTF day

I tough of changing myself could the best way of my new life. But serious S**t dough. It feels like mother f**k*r. F**K OFF... It being a long time for me not coughs among those who are sick off. Hate to be me and going be myself. Why can I just be me? Huh...

Guest what; I'm sick of being good pretend nice. S**T... What can I get from that S**T. Long enough to keep silent. More action than word... Argggg…. I love violent. Watching is my medicine. What the hell I'm thinking? Should I or shouldn't I... These things make me sick.

The printer back to normal

I took about 2-3 hours to figure out what exactly the problem to my false paper jam error. Then I borrow tools from my friend to dismantle all the component into pieces. With a little knowledge about printer, so I took a risk because I already fed up with the false paper jam error.

Before I unscrew the printer cover, I look at any possibilities a hidden screw so that I don't make damage on the printer. After that I open the cover then the component inside. I just follow my instinct when open it. I try my best to dismantle the component and remember every screw for each holes.

Is it possible a printer can be infected by virus?

Yesterday my problem printer already replace by the new one. I install it into my laptop to test it to print some document and it work. Nothing happen. The test print can be printed out. Then I turn the power off.

But then when I turn on the printer, suddenly the printer behaves like my printer before. Then the same problem again which is the paper jam. I don't know what the real problem is. How could be a new printer which no paper is inside can be detect as a paper jam again...

A story to share...

Last week (29th August 2009 if I'm not mistaken) my HP printer detect error jam paper. The problem starting when I'm printing out my assignment to submit tomorrow. One of the papers suddenly stuck inside the printer and this make the printer detect paper jam. Huhu... Then I look back at the book manual how to solve the problem...

Yesterday 31th August 2009, me and my friend went to this Big Apple Donuts and Coffee at SACC mall Shah Alam, Selangor. We reach there around 5.40 pm. We didn't aspect to queue that long until have to wait outside the outlet. But that the fact. Huhu... This once in my life time buy the Big Apple donuts at half price or 52% discount sale.

Road Closure In Conjunction With Merdeka Day Celebration

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 29 (Bernama) -- Jalan Parlimen, the approach road to Parliament House, will be closed in conjunction with the 52nd Merdeka Day celebration on Monday.

City traffic movement officer C/Insp Mohd Irwan Abdul Rahim told Bernama, the road will be closed from 7.30am till the ceremony ends.

The ceremony, which will be held at Dataran Parlimen, is expected to last about 40 minutes and public participation will be limited to only 8,600 people.

Some 6,000 people are also expected to line either side of the road from the Bank Negara roundabout till Parliament's entrance in conjunction with the celebration.

A plan to The Mines

Hello friend's,

Today I want to share to you all about my experience. This week my girlfriend plan to go to The Mines. She really wants to go to The Mines because she wants to try to go there from Shah Alam and of course with me. Hehe... so I just follow her plan. If not I just thinking going to Mid Valley.

7:45 am, she send a wake up message. So I quickly go upstairs to take a bath (our house is double story house, but the bathroom at the down floor is cannot be use.) So without thinking any further I just take bath as fast as I can (plus the water very cool in the morning). Then suddenly one of my housemate asks me to eat his "Tapau". But I can't finish eat it because: (1) too spicy, (2) not tasty, and (3) I don't have appetite to eat nasi goreng kampung in the morning (the meal too heavy for me for a breakfast). Haha... 8:20 am I went out from house and headed to the nearest bus stop (near the balai polis and kolej UiTM).

8.25 am, at the bustop I'm accidently step on the kitten. I'm not realizing there is a kitten under the bustop sit (poor little kitty...). Huhu... About 5 minute later, the Rapid bus (T602) arrived and paid RM1 is for the bus fee (the circulation time for bus rapid is every 30 minute). But starting this September onward, the bus fee for rapid will change. Huhu...

About 10 minute like that I arrive at Seksyen 2. My girlfriend still waiting for bus Rapid from sekskyen 7. As usual (miscommunication), I suppose to drop at PKNS but why that time I always thinking of using Bus Rapid to go to Shah Alam - KL (U80 Seksyen 2 - Pasar Seni). Haha... Luckily instead of waiting Bus Rapid, my girlfriend use Bus Seranas to Seksyen 2 and the bus fee is RM0.50. Then from Seksyen 2 we headed to PKNS by Bas Rapid (T605 Seksyen 2 - Puncak). She had to pay RM1 for the bus fee and me... I don't have to pay because the bus ticket still valid until midnight. Hehe…

Then from there, we use taxi to Komuter Shah Alam. The fee for the cab is about RM6.70 from PKNS to Komuter Shah Alam (I don't know whether this is the new taxi fee or I was being cheated by the taxi driver). The traffic quite heavy during that time because there is a road construction by the road side to widen the road. I think we stuck at the traffic jam about 10 minute. Huhu... Then after reach the Komuter Shah Alam, my girlfriend paid for the train fee about RM8.00 for 2 people to Serdang.

We were lucky for not to have many passenger today. So everybody have their own very comfortable train seat. Me and my girlfriend seat at the back. The best thing at the beck is the back door is jammed and cannot be closed. So I can see behind the door. It was amazing to see and hear for a steel to walk on the steel (the train wheels and the railways). Then we have to change to platform 6 to use next train to Seremban (this train will head to Serdang). We manage to have a comfortable seat at the back even though many passenger during that time. Hehe...

After reach Komuter Serdang, we used taxi to The Mines because we don't know how to go to The Mines using bus (to play safe). They charge us RM6 from Komuter Serdang to The Mines (my girlfriend pay the taxi fee). Then we decide to stop by at KFC to have lunch (its 10:45 pm). As usual Jom Jimat set b for two and I paid the meal (RM12.40)

My first impression about The Mines is as Big as One Utama or Sunway Pyramid, but it's like Times Square or maybe smaller than that. The main attraction there is the fairy cruise from The Mines to the Lake nearby. Besides that, you can see the fish swim freely along the water at the riverbank from the shopping complex. But our plan to watch movie canceled because there is no "best movie" during afternoon (G.I Joe 4:30 and Alien in the Attic 9:20 pm out from our schedule). huhu...

After that we decide to go back to Shah Alam. This is because my gf want to stop to Hari hari at the Ole Ole shopping mall. But this time the taxi driver charges us RM8.00 for the taxi fee (I'm paid the fee) from The Mines to Komuter Serdang). At the counter, my gf paid RM8.00 for the komuter fee from Serdang to Shah Alam (RM4 each X 2 = RM8).

Long story short:I lost my Rapid Bus ticket so I have to use my touch n' Go for the first time (lost another RM1 in my touch n' Go)... Stop at Ole ole to occupy my gf to buy from Hari – Hari (We use T529 Komuter Shah Alam – PKNS). Then we headed to pas to occupy my gf to buy for her parent. After that, we buy foods and drinks at the PKNS Pasar Ramadan. I spend RM4.00 nasi tomato and RM1 drink)... We eat at Tasik Shah Alam (just on time people "berbuka puasa"). Before we go back we buy Celcom reload (ME 10, my gf RM20). Then we headed to Hentian Bandar to wait for our bus there.

OK here is the calculation the money that we spent today:

Firefox problem

I think my Mozila Firefox having problem loading my yahoo mail. Sometime it took for so long to loading my email and sometime the email I want to delete or read my email didn't happen. I don't know how to overcome this problem because I don't know how...

But the "loading" problem on yahoo mail didn't happened when I'm using internet explorer. Everything is fine. So what really happen here? Are these because of the internet connection or what? This is because before this I'm using TM Net streamyx connection the problem didn't happen. But when I'm using the P1 WiMax, the problem start to happen.

The thing that makes me feel very upset with this problem is "I can't open my yahoo mail using Mozila Firefox again". So in order to solve my problem, I'm using 2 web browsers: Mozila Firefox and Internet Explorer.

Road first, others second.

This evening (25 Aug 2009) me and my friends witness an accident in front of our eyes on our way to Santai Restaurant. Because of misinformation that the restaurant is in Seksyen 9 so we have to go to the Seksyen 11 roundabout and turn back before we can go to Santai Restaurant.

The traffic was busy that time because it is peak hour (around 5:00 - 6:00 like that) where everybody going back after working and everybody want to go to Pasar Ramadan to buy food or go to home to "berbuka puasa" with their loves one.

At the junction to the roundabout I think I saw an accident because a 3 - 4 motorist already at the roadside and throwing something broken to the roadside. Then, when we're turn back at the roundabout, we saw a motorist using scooter holding a hand phone on the left side like talking through the phone. I'm impressed and smile after looking at the motorist because answering a call is more important than focus on the busy road. Then suddenly we saw the motorist fall down after trying avoiding another motorist that headed to PKNS. Just imagine using one hand to avoid from crash but it is too late and it happens. The motorist just lying down and not make any movement. My friend who is driving the car scared after looking the motorist does not make any movement.

We just go ahead and not stop to see the motorist because we don't want to make the traffic become worst. So we just headed to Santai Restaurant. I still can't forget the sound when the accident happened until now. My friend who is from Stadium Melawati also sees the accident. They said a lot of blood already on the road and the policeman who is on duty handling the traffic also help the victim. We don't know how badly the accident is. But what lesson that we can get from that day is "Focus on the road while driving and not at the phone". This is because it is not for our own safety but also for other road uses.

A new blog

Hello there...

I've create a new blogspot special about entertainment. For this blog I specified it with music "where music is my life". As we know, every sound that we heard is actually a piece of instrument then when we can combine it become music. Same goes to our daily life. If there is only have 1 person, we cannot call it as a community. But if we gather and build a relationship then we can see the community. That is what I want to stress in my new blog. I hope that through music I share with you in my new blog will open our mind into a community of sharing and caring.

A brand new day

Today is our first day going to faculty from our new house. Haha... Nothing much to say here but the excitement is higher right now. The intention of how fast we can reach the UiTM Masscomm Faculty is something that bothers my mind right now. Besides that, this month is a Fast Month where all Muslim are fasting right now. So don't hope that a Malay food stall will open during days except the McD, KFC etc. So... let’s fell how it feels like. Hehe….

Finally 3 to 6

You must wander what I mean by 3 to 6. OK... here the story begins...

Today is the day my 1st day sleep at our new house at seksyen 6, Shah Alam. Before this I and my colleague rent an apartment at this Batu 3, Subang Jaya, same country which is Selangor but different district. That is what I'm means by 3 to 6. Hehe... So far so good here. The neighborhood is nice. Calm and peace. That is all I can comment for now.

The excuse we're moved from 3 to 6 is because:
1. Lack of public transport from our house to UiTM main campus. You need to walk by the road side to the nearest bus stop which direct to seksyen 2 which took me about 15 minute by walking.
2. The traffic always busy with vehicle especially during peak hour.
3. The maintenance is quite expensive especially the water bill because as a resident to the apartment, we're also had to paid the swimming pool water bill.
4. In case of forgetting some at house (assignment etc.) it is too far for us to back to home from UiTM.
5. Lack of facilities such as food court also becomes the issue here. The nearest is Sha Sha which only open from 6.00 pm till 2:00 am. But we miss Sha Sha so much our favorite hangs around during night time.
6. Last but not least (where many others issue that I'm not stated here) we cannot make noise especially during study among us because the "Pak Guard" will come and knock your door and said “Orang sudah banyak complain ini rumah banyak bising”

Moving out

Today is the day for us to move into the new house. Everything is settle up. What are we doing now is to waiting for the moment. A lorry will come here to bring our goods to the new house. Hahaha... Hope that the rent is not that high.

So we need to "kemaskan" our "barang" so that when the lorry is here we just for loaded it into the lorry. Wait and see...

Owh yeah... our new house is at Seksyen 6, Shah Alam...

In memory Alistair R.G Morrison

Former Sarawak Information Director Dies

KUCHING, Aug 20 (Bernama) -- Former Sarawak Information Services director Alistair R.G Morrison, who was credited as a crucial figure in the state's relatively smooth transition from colonial rule in the early 1960s, has died in Canberra, Australia, aged 94.

Former assistant state secretary Lim Kian Hock said today the Peking-born Morrison died of old age on Aug 4.

He said in a statement here that Morrison had been afflicted with a range of health problems in later years.

After his wife, Hedda, died in 1991, he proceeded to occupy himself in writing his memoirs, first of his time in Sarawak, entitled "Fair Land Sarawak", and then of his earlier life, "The Road in Peking" and "A Bird Fancier : A Journey to Peking".

Describing him as a "fine writer, whose wry sense of humor was never far from the surface," Lim said Morrison joined the British Colonial Service in 1947 and was sent to Sarawak just after it was acquired by Britain from the last Rajah, Sir Charles Vyner Brooke.

He served in several up-country posts as a district officer and wrote extensively for the Sarawak Gazette on future government policy towards Sarawak's indigenous groups.

Later he was transferred to the secretariat in Kuching and finally to the Government Information Office in late 1959.

"As an economist, his real interest was in rural development and he was disappointed not to be able to persevere in that challenging area.

On the other hand, he was to be a crucial figure in the relatively smooth transition from colonial rule in the early 1960s," Lim said.

He said the up-country postings had also given Hedda, a photographer by profession, the opportunity to take a superb series of photographs of the people of Sarawak before the effects of modernisation began to change their traditional way of life.

Her 1962 book, "Life in a Longhouse", remains a classic.

In early 1967, four years after Sarawak became part of the new federation of Malaysia, Morrison and Hedda moved to Canberra where he took up a senior position as head of the Southeast Asian branch of the Office of Current Intelligence under the Joint Intelligence Organisation before retiring in the mid-1970s.

Amanah Saham 1 Malaysia

1.9 Billion AS1M Units Subscribed

PUTRAJAYA, Aug 19 (Bernama) -- Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB) announced Tuesday an estimated 1.9 billion Amanah Saham 1Malaysia (AS1M) units have been subscribed since it opened for public subscription on Aug 5, 2009.

Its President and Group Chief Executive, Tan Sri Hamad Kama Piah Che Othman, said 10 billion AS1M units, priced at RM1 per unit, is being offered for sale to all Malaysians aged 18 years and above.

"So far, about 1.9 billion AS1M units have been sold. There is still a lot more units available for subscription," he told reporters after handing over prizes to winners of PNB Investment Quiz 2009 here tuesday.

Malaysians, aged 55 and below, can purchase a maximum of 50,000 units while those above 55 years can subscribe up to 100,000 units of the units which was launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on July 31, 2009.

The fixed income fund has similar features as Amanah Saham Wawasan 2020 and Amanah Saham Malaysia.

Miracle: Woman cheated death

Car smashed, but woman survives

GEORGE TOWN: A 28-year-old factory worker cheated death when the car she was driving was rammed from behind by a rubbish lorry on the Bayan Lepas coastal highway here yesterday afternoon.

The victim, Goh Siew Lin, had stopped at the traffic light when the accident occurred.

The accident also resulted in a pile-up involving two cars and a lorry.

Goh was pinned to her seat for 35 minutes before firemen managed to get her out.


Bayan Baru Fire and Rescue Department chief Abd Rahim Ismail said they received a distress call at 2.02pm and arrived at the scene six minutes later.

He said nine firemen took about 35 minutes to get the victim out of the mangled wreck.

"She was taken to the Pantai Mutiara Hospital for treatment," he said.

Southwest district Traffic Department head Chief Inspector Mohd Zin Mat Ali said the woman sustained serious injuries when she was pinned to her seat following the knock from behind by the rubbish lorry, driven by a 44-year-old man.

He said police had taken a statement from the lorry driver and based on initial investigations, the rubbish lorry driver had failed to control his vehicle, causing it to ram into Goh's car.

"We are taking the rubbish lorry for a technical inspection to ascertain the cause of the accident," he said, adding that all those involved in the pile-up had lodged police reports.

Zin urged those with information on the accident to call the Southwest district police headquarters at 04-8662222.

Zimbabwe current money (Zimdollar) becomes no value in the world market right now. This is because a 50 U.S cent equivalent to 3 trillion Zimdollar. Just imagine how much we have to bring to make it to 1 U.S dollar. A bunch of Zimdollar is for sure.

Me myself cannot imagine how would it be if my life such as like this situation. Every day I spend almost MYR15 just for food. Why is this happen to them? Why other countries have high values of money? Who controlled the world money currency?

Latest H1N1 news: More upcoming death.

Total death for H1N1 total 62, while 238 new cases brought the number of H1N1 infections to 3,857 cases. Just imagine that the number of death continue rising up but when will it stop? That is the question now. Public awareness about the virus is still low right now. We can see most of the public don't wear the mask. Maybe they think that people who wear mask is for those who are suspected only of have cough of flu. But it is important to us to wear the mask when going to public places especially to a crowded places.

The latest news is a six-year-old child with Down's Syndrome and a hole in the heart is the latest of three deaths resulting from complications due to influenza A (H1N1).

In order to prevent the spread of the decease, the government release a new act which is under Section 12 (1) of the Infectious Diseases Control Act 1988, anyone who knows of a disease that can spread to the public and purposely ignore quarantine warnings and infect others will be fined RM2,000 or a maximum penalty of RM10,000 or two years of imprisonment or both.

Influenza A(H1N1): Premature baby among latest 5 fatal cases

KUALA LUMPUR, Sat (Bernama): A premature baby was among five who died from Influenza A(H1N1) between Aug 8 and 12, bringing the total number of deaths from the disease to 56.

Director-general of Health Tan Sri Dr Mohd Ismail Merican said in a statement today that one died on Aug 8, two on Aug 11 and other two on Aug 12. One of them was obese, one had diabetes, another had diabetes and tuberculosis, and the other two were babies.

He said the premature baby was born at 27 weeks and warded on Aug 3 for fever, cough, a cold and breathing difficulty. The baby was given anti-viral and other treatment but died on Aug 12.

The other baby, two months old, was admitted on Aug 7 as it was weak and pale although it was not having fever, cough or breathing difficulty. However, the baby was placed in the intensive-care unit (ICU) after its condition became critical and died on Aug 8.


Another two cases involved a 49-year-old obese woman who had diabetes and tuberculosis and a 57-year-old man who also had diabetes.

The woman was admitted to hospital on July 29 for fever, cough, sore throat and breathing difficulty. She was treated for pneumonia and discharged on Aug 3 but readmitted four days later for treatment of tuberculosis.

On Aug 8, she was given anti-viral treatment for suspected H1N1 infection but died three days later.

The other two fatal cases were a diabetic man who did not respond to treatment for fever and cough, and a 19-year-old youth who was tested positive for H1N1. They died on Aug 12.

Dr Mohd Ismail said while 70 per cent of fatal cases due to the disease had other health risks, 40 per cent delayed in seeking treatment while in 13 per cent, doctors failed to detect the infection early.

On the current H1N1 situation in the country, he said 72 people were still receiving treatment in the wards and another 27 in the ICUs, with 10 of them having chronic ailments while four were obese.

He said the viral transmission within the community was high, based on the number of people with symptoms going to the hospitals or clinics for treatment.

He advised those with influenza symptoms and had been treated without hospitalisation to take precaution by resting at home.

He said teachers and employers should conduct daily screening of their students/workers to ensure those with symptoms do not remain in class or at the workplace, while parents should not allow their children with influenza-like symptoms to attend class so as to curb the spread of the disease.

UiTM remain open as usual

Exams And Convocation To Proceed As Scheduled - Uitm

SHAH ALAM, (Bernama) - The Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) will proceed with its examination and convocation programmes according to schedule, said the Academic and International Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr Mustaffa Mohamed Zain.

He said the dates for the local examinations, scheduled to start from October to November and the dates for convocation from Oct 15 to 27 remained unchanged.

"Lectures and classes will proceed as usual. However, should there be changes, the UiTM will make an official announcement," he said in a statement here Friday.

Mustaffa said the UiTM, however, had no intention of closing all its campuses in the country because of the H1N1 virus situation as the situation did not warrant it as advised by the Health Ministry.

"We (UiTM) ask the parents and members of the public not to listen to rumour that claimed we are closed," he said.

Mustaffa advised UiTM students and officers with health problems to get treatment at clinics and health centres nearby.

More people view about the "Chinese Herb"

As you can see, I got many hit about the “Health: Chinese herb and H1N1” (you can see the picture at the left). Maybe this is because people become more afraid with the deadly virus and aware about how to prevent and cure from the H1N1 that already hit all over the world. As I concern, the virus spread through air when person who are infected with the virus sneeze without closing his/her mouth. So people who are near to the infected with the virus can get the infected too.

I accidentally got the article from our national newspaper (Bernama). The article very useful for those who want to try alternative medicine. I myself don’t how truth it is the article because I don’t try it myself. Maybe someday I try to take Chinese herb to prevent myself from getting infected.

Seven More Deaths Today, A(H1N1) Death Toll Rises To 51

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 13 (Bernama) -- Seven more deaths relating to Influenza A(H1N1) were confirmed on Thursday, bringing the death toll in the country to 51.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said the seven deaths were from the high-risk group who had high blood pressure, heart disease, low imunity or congenital disease.

They were aged between four months and 92 years old.

"Currently, there are 51 cases in the wards, 29 in Intensive Care Units (ICU) and 16 out of the 29 in ICUs are from the high risk group," he told reporters after launching the Malaysian Association For The Study of Obesity (MASO) Conference here.

Liow said patients with influenza-like symptoms and heart problems, those with persistent high fever for more than two days and those tested positive for Influenza A or B through rapid test would be given antiviral treatment immediately.

For these groups there was no need to wait for a confirmation from the Institute for Medical Research (IMR) or the Sungai Buloh Hospital.

"I have directed all hospitals and clinics to threat these groups of patients immediately," he said.

Liow also urged doctors to give seven days' medical leave to those suffering from flu so that they could continue treatment at home and not expose themselves to the public.

He also called on the people not to panic because 98 per cent of those who contracted the disease had recovered.

What was worrying was the high risk group which needed immediate treatment if they showed H1N1 symptoms, he added.

"If everyone acts responsibly and follows the instructions of the Health Ministry, we believe that we can contain this pandemic," he said.

Liow also said that the current situation, though serious because of the increase in fatalities, did not warrant the government declaring a health emergency.

"To declare a health emergency I have to quarantine the community whereby the government must curb the people's movements. We have not reached that stage yet."

On the closure of schools, he said the ministry had asked the school authorities to closely monitor the students and send the sick ones home to rest.

He said parents must also cooperate by ensuring that their children did not go to school and were immediate treated by a doctor if they showed signs of H1N1.

"We close a school for a week and then we reopen. Then there is another H1N1 case and a closure order is issued. This is not how we manage the pandemic because the disease speads not only in schools but also in the communal areas, night markets or supermarkets," he said.

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have begun investigating several blogs for posting articles which were allegedly seditious in nature.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar said several blogs had already come under scrutiny.

“We have our ways of identifying who were responsible for setting up the blogs and the individuals who posted sensitive comments,” he told the New Straits Times yesterday.

Ismail was responding to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s call to bring to book the culprits who incited religious and racial hatred through the Internet.

“Irresponsible parties should not think that they can post sensitive comments online and still remain anonymous. We have ways to identify them and laws to deal with them. “We will get these irresponsible parties.”


On Monday, Najib called on the police to investigate and take action against those who incited religious hatred as all religions and races in the country had to be protected.

Najib was commenting on seditious postings circulated on the Internet which allegedly insulted Islam and the Malay rulers.

A blog had posted a statement, allegedly by DAP Socialist Youth chief Loke Siew Fook, criticising commentaries of an Islamic scholar, Dr Ridhuan Tee Abdullah, published in a Malay daily over
the past two weeks.

The blog ceased operating on Monday but it is understood that several other blogs had also posted the statement, which drew comments from readers.

Yesterday, Information, Communication and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim stressed that existing laws were sufficient to deal with those who misused theInternet to defame or insult other parties.

Rais said those found guilty of publishing seditious postings could be charged under section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 and even under the Penal Code.

“These offenders should be investigated. If the attorney-general feels that they should be brought to court, then they must face the music,” he said after launching the 1Malaysia Concept Seminar here.

“We have been hearing a lot about seditious postings lately but no action has been taken yet.”

KOTA KINABALU: Another eight influenza A (H1N1) deaths were reported today, bringing the total number of fatalities in Malaysia to 26.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai who confirmed this said Sabah recorded its first two deaths after a 24-year-old obese woman and a man aged 74 years with chronic heart disease succumbed to the virus last week.

He said some of the other deaths involved a 20-year-old female student who was found dead at her hostel in the peninsula, a 48-year-old asmathic man and an obese man aged 37 years who died at the Sultanah Aminah Hospital in Johor.

"The latest eight deaths happened between Aug 3 and Aug 8 but we could only confirm that they died of influenza A after getting post mortem results.

"Seven of the deaths involved people with high risk factors," he said after renaming the Likas Hospital near here to the Women and Child Hospital.


Liow said 62 people were being treated at wards and another 13 were in the intensive care unit after contracting the virus.

In Sabah, there are seven confirmed H1N1 patients receiving treatment including one at the ICU, and another seven are waiting for results of tests done on them.

He said 35 schools were closed in the Sabah.

'A non-Malay prime minister not improbable'

NIBONG TEBAL: Malaysia could one day have a non-Malay as Prime Minister, Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir said yesterday.

He said the Federal Constitution did not state that only a Malay could be elected to that post.

"What we need is for the majority of members of parliament to elect a non-Malay as prime minister and then submit the proposal to the king.

"The constitution allows such a change. But the Malays form the majority race in the country and hence the non-Malays should double their efforts -- as my father (former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad) urged earlier -- to increase the population to 70 million."

Mukhriz said this during a 1Malaysia forum for youths here yesterday.


The event was organised by the state Unity and National Integration Department.

"Citizens in the United States have accepted a descendant from Africa as their president. They did not see him as a black or that there was an Islamic touch to his name, but they saw him as a citizen of the United States.

"The former prime minister of Thailand Thaksin Shinawatra was of Chinese descent but the people accepted him as a Thai."

To a question from a participant who asked if the government could remove the "race" column in application forms, Mukhriz said it was necessary in certain forms to provide benefits to Bumiputeras, but not in others.

He also said the implementation of a single stream school could help the 1Malaysia vision be a success as it would nurture a sense of unity among students.

This way, students of different races could mingle and interact more effectively.

"It can be done, for example, by making Mandarin and Tamil languages elective subjects so that students can learn their friends' mother-tongues.

"It would be good if Malaysians can master Bahasa Melayu, Mandarin and Tamil, thus achieving the objective of a harmonious 1Malaysia and to understand one another."

To prevent students from neglecting their mother-tongue, single stream schools must make it compulsory for them to take up their mother-tongues.

Mukhriz said the education system could bring all races together, through the sharing of culture and tradition, as well as prevent racial polarisation.

He said the single stream school proposal was stated in the Razak Report 1956, a year before the country gained independence.

"Tun Abdul Razak once said he hoped the single stream school would become a reality, but after 52 years of our country's independence, it has not materialised."

Yasmin Ahmad Chosen Best Director At 22nd Mff

KOTA KINABALU, Aug 8 (Bernama) -- The late Yasmin Ahmad was chosen as the best director for her film 'Talentime' at the 22nd Malaysian Film Festival (MFF), here Saturday night.

She won a trophy and a cash prize of RM20,000 which were received by her younger sister.

Yasmin also won the award for the best screen play for the film, for which she also received a trophy and RM15,000 cash prize.

Talentime also won the award for the best supporting actor through Mohd Shafie Naswip who walked away with a trophy and a cash prize of RM10,000.

Earlier at the award presentation held for the first time at the Dewan Canselori Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Talentime was among the four films that received the Special Main Jury Award.

The other three films were 'Kami - The Movie', 'Histeria' and 'Geng: Pengembaraan Bermula'.

Yasmin, 51, died on July 25 at about 11.25 pm after suffering a stroke and brain haemorrhage.

The 22nd MFF also showed a video clip that lasted about two minutes in memory of the film director.

The brief video clip, with actress and singer Adibah Noor as the narrator, showed excerpts of the films and commercials directed by her.

Meanwhile the film 'Papadom' directed by Afdlin Shauki won the best film award for which he received a trophy and a cash prize of RM50,000.

The Best Actor Award was also won by Afdlin, while the Best Actress Award went to Liyana Jasmay, both through the film 'Papadom'.

The best actor and best actress each won a trophy and a cash prize of RM15,000.

The 22nd MFF also chose Omar Man and Mariani Ismail as the winners for the Best Veteran Actor and Best Veteran Actress Awards respectively.

Also present at the ceremony were the Sabah Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Ahmadshah Abdullah, Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman and Information Communication and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Utama Dr Rais Yatim.

'Sarawak will not be left behind'

TO ensure that no states are left behind, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has directed his ministers to visit Sarawak frequently and identify ways to improve the lives of the people there.

Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the order was issued in a recent cabinet meeting as the government felt that the people of Sarawak must be given more help in various areas, including education and economy.

Muhyiddin said the government was aware that in view of the coming state elections, the opposition was trying hard to convince the people there that Barisan Nasional had overlooked their interest.

However, Muhyiddin said BN had the support of the state leadership as reflected in close cooperation between the Federal Government and Sarawak government in the state's development.

Muhyiddin said BN needed to work 10 times harder to regain the people's mandate in the next general election.


"As I said before, with a strong leadership, we can build on the party's strength

"We are striving to get close to the people by carrying out sound initiatives and policies that are people friendly.

"This and more of such efforts that we will push for, will change the perception of the people, the Malays and the non-Malays, towards Umno and BN," he told the Malaysian press in Perth, Australia during his official visit.

Muhyiddin noted the tendency of the opposition, including its leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, to campaign in rural and interior Sarawak lately, thinking that they could break the ruling party's support in the state as well as Sabah, which are considered BN strongholds.

This, he said, was to realise their ambition of taking over the Federal Government in the next election.

The Sarawak assembly ends in July 24, 2011 although word on the ground suggests that it could be sooner due to the support for a Najib-helmed BN.

On Najib's statement in Pagoh recently that he had a good relationship with his deputy, Muhyiddin said the partnership enabled them to enjoy a strong, cooperative and effective leadership.

"What is most important is that I understand the vision and direction of the prime minister.

"What I have been doing in the past few months is not merely to assist, but to realise what the prime minister had envisaged."

Muhyiddin dismissed suggestions by some quarters that BN was sidelining the interests of the Malays by placing less focus on the New Economic Policy.

"Although the matter is not frequently mentioned, it does not mean that we are shirking our responsibility to the Malays."

He denied the opposition's claim that there was no longer a share for Malays in the economy.

Muhyiddin said as underlined in the Constitution and government policies, the interests of the Malays were not only always protected, but would be continuously improved although the approach might be different.

He cited the setting up of Ekuiti Nasional Bhd (Ekuinas) as a new initiative aimed at spurring the involvement of Bumiputeras in the economy.

Influenza A H1N1 Deaths Leap To 14

PUTRAJAYA, Aug 6 (Bernama) -- Another death related to Influenza A (H1N1), that of a 57-year old male pensioner at the Putrajaya Hospital Wednesday, has raised the number of deaths due to the pandemic to 14 since this morning.

Director-General of Health Tan Sri Dr Mohd Ismail Merican said the victim who had diabetes and hypertension was admitted to the hospital's intensive care unit (ICU) with symptoms of fever, cough and difficulty in breathing.

"He was confirmed having the virus yesterday. He died yesterday of Acute Pulmonary Oedema secondary to H1N1," he told reporters here Thursday.

In that regard, Dr Mohd Ismail again stressed that people with high risk like pregnant women, those with lung disease, obesity, diabetes, asthma, low immunity, heart disease and breathing difficulty to seek immediate treatment at the nearest clinic or hospital as treatment for Influenza A (H1N1) was very effective if treatment was started within 48 hours of onset of symptoms.

He said for those who have normal influenza symptoms and not in the high risk groups they are advised to not panic and rush to get themselves tested.

He said this was because many H1N1 cases in Malaysia, and the rest of the world, would show light symptoms and 98 per cent would recover even without specific medicine.

"Patients with light symptoms are asked to rest and God Willing will recover in three or four days. After recovering they will have the anti-body, so it is not necessary for all cases with light symptoms to undergo H1N1 testing," he said.

Dr Mohd Ismail said H1N1 testing would only be done for cases admitted to ward and those with high risk.

He said this was because the Institute of Medical Research (IMR) which is responsible for testing is swamped with 500 tests a day and that 80-90 per cent were tested negative.

KUALA LUMPUR: As the number of deaths from influenza A (H1N1) in
the country hit 13 and the number of infections continued to climb, the Health Ministry yesterday issued four new directives to combat the spread of the virus.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Ismail Merican said the virus
had hit the community and was no more in clusters, spreading rapidly throughout the country.

He said this was ascertained from information taken from public and private hospitals, and clinics, which have all recorded high numbers of people seeking treatment for fever and cough.

The new directives issued are: those in the high-risk category
(pregnant, obese, asthmatic, diabetic, low immunity and those with heart problems) and who suffer from breathing difficulty should immediately seek medical treatment at the nearest clinic or hospital.


This is important as these patients need to be treated with the anti-viral drug Tamiflu within 48 hours of
showing symptoms.


The treatment can start without laboratory results and Tamiflu is given free;
After getting treatment, the patient must quarantine himself
or herself in the house and have reduced contact and communication with the public, including family members. The patient must adhere to strict personal hygiene and cough
etiquette to avert the spread of the virus; patients who show mild symptoms of the disease must adhere to the advice of the doctor and quarantine themselves to prevent the spread of the virus to others.

If they want to go out, they must wear a “three-ply” surgical mask to avert local transmission; and, members of the public who know of cluster groups of people showing influenza-like illness in schools, institutions, workplaces and communities should contact the nearest Health Department office so as to initiate immediate investigations and control measures to stop or slow down the spread.

Within the last 24 hours, the country reported 16 new confirmed
cases, bringing the total number of cases to 1,476.
The death toll stood at 12.

Coming in the wake of the death of a 3-year-old girl in Malacca on Monday, which was confirmed to be H1N1-related the following day, were the deaths of a 12-year-old boy and a 20-year-old man, also on Monday.

Both were also from Malacca and were confirmed to be H1N1-related yesterday.

The boy, a kidney failure victim on haemodialysis, was admitted to hospital on the same day he died. He had fever, cough and breathing difficulties.

The youth, a chronic asthma sufferer, was admitted on Sunday after complaining of fever, cough and breathing difficulties, which he had since Friday.

“The youth was admitted to the ICU when doctors found him having severe pneumonia,” said Dr Ismail.

Another case involved a 6-year-old boy who died at the Batu Pahat Hospital yesterday.

In Kuantan , Bernama reported that a six-year-old boy died yesterday, the first death from H1N1 in the state.

Mohd Hyafiq Hyafiq Aiman Mohd Saiful Afendi died at the
Tengku Ampuan Afzan (HTAA) Hospital at 12.40pm after suffering from pneumonia.

The boy’s mother, identified only as Tia, said her son was
admitted to the hospital on Aug 1.

Pahang Local Government, Environment and Health Committee chairman Datuk Hoh Khai Mun confirmed the death.
Dr Ismail said all the cases reported of late were local
transmissions and this was worrying.

Of the 1,476 cases reported, 1,413 have recovered while 10
are in ICU and 28 receiving treatment in isolation wards.
Dr Ismail said among the 10 in ICU were a person who was
obese, a pregnant woman and a person with low immunity.

KUALA LUMPUR, Wed: As the number of deaths from influenza A (H1N1) in the country hits 12 and the number of infections continue to climb, the Health Ministry yesterday issued four new directives to combat the spread of the virus.

The latest case involves a 6-year-old boy who died at the Batu Pahat Hospital today at 2.30am.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Ismail Merican said the virus infection was no longer in clusters, and spreading rapidly throughout the country.

He said this was ascertained from information taken from public and private hospitals, and clinics, which have all recorded high numbers of people seeking treatment for fever and cough.

The new directives issued are:

* those in the high-risk category (pregnant, obese, asthmatic, diabetic, low immunity and those with heart problems) and suffering from breathing difficulties, should seek medical treatment immediately at the nearest clinic or hospital. This is important as patients need to be treated with the anti-viral drug Tamiflu within 48 hours of showing symptoms. The treatment can start without laboratory results and Tamiflu is given free;
* after getting treatment, patients must be quarantine at home and lessen their contact and communication with the public, including family members. Patients must adhere to strict personal hygiene and cough etiquettes to avert the spread of the virus;
* patients who show mild symptoms of the disease must adhere to the advice of the doctor and quarantine themselves to prevent the spread of the virus to others. If they want to go out, they must wear a three-ply face mask; and,

* members of the public who know of cluster groups of people showing influenza-like illness in schools, institutions, workplaces and communities are to inform the nearest Health Department office; this will allow the department to to exercise control measures to stop or slow down the spread.

The websites also disclose the updates on the situation in the country.

Dr Ismail said there were 16 new confirmed cases reported within the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases in the country to 1,476.

Coming in the wake of the death of a 3-year-old girl in Malacca on Monday, which was confirmed to be H1N1-related, the following day, a 12-year-old boy and a 20-year-old man also died of H1N1-related causes. Both were also from Malacca.

The boy, a kidney failure victim on haemodialysis, was admitted to hospital, on the same day he died, with fever, cough and breathing difficulties which he had had since Saturday.

The youth, a chronic asthma sufferer, was admitted on Sunday after complaining of fever, cough and breathing difficulties, which started on Friday.

“The youth was placed into the intensive care unit when doctors found him having severe pneumonia,” said Dr Ismail.

He said all the cases reported of late were local transmissions and this was worrying.

Among the 1,476 cases reported, 1,413 have recovered; while 10 are in ICU; and 28 receiving treatment in isolation wards.

Dr Ismail said among the 10 in ICU was a person who was obese, a pregnant woman and a person with low immunity.

Malaysia Reports Seventh H1N1 Death

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 3 (Bernama) -- A woman who gave birth two weeks ago is the seventh victim to succumb to the Influenza A(H1N1) in the country.

The 23-year-old woman died at the intensive care unit of the Miri Hospital at 4am today after suffering from acute pneumonia, Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Mohd Ismail Merican said.

This is the first Influenza A(H1N1) death in Sarawak.

Dr Mohd Ismail said the victim had given birth at the same hospital on July 21.

"After giving birth, she was found to be suffering from acute pneumonia and was tested positive for the Influenza A(H1N1) on July 23.

"She was feverish and was coughing about four days prior to delivering the baby. Her baby is safe and is confirmed to be free of the Influenza A(H1N1) infection," he said.

Seventeen new cases were reported today, all of which are local transmissions involving Malaysians.

This brought the number of cases nationwide to 1,446 as at 8am today, with a recovery rate of 97 per cent.

Twenty-nine patients are still receiving antiviral treatments in hospitals while nine others are receiving them in their homes.

He also said that the Health Ministry was still flooded with enquiries on ways to prevent the disease.

Among the steps to be taken, he said, was to avoid crowded places, observe hygiene such as washing hands regularly and covering the mouth when coughing or sneezing.

"The ministry is confident that with the cooperation of all, the Influenza A(H1N1) situation in Malaysia can be contained," Dr Mohd Ismail said.

At the global level, 183,854 cases were reported in 167 countries so far, with 1,307 deaths.

Sarawak Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr George Chan said there were 110 local transmissions and 25 imported cases so far in the state.

Meanwhile, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) may temporarily close its campus in Serdang should another Influenza A(H1N1) case is detected, its vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Nik Mustapha R. Abdullah told reporters here.

Last week, UPM was forced to bring forward its mid-semester break after four of its students were tested positive for the virus.

Meanwhile, in JOHOR BAHARU, state executive councillor for women, family, community and health development Dr Robia Kosai said the Sekolah Kebangsaan Taman Kenanga, Tampoi, would not be closed despite the death of one of its pupils due to the virus yesterday.

In KUANTAN, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Tanjung Lumpur was today closed until Aug 9 after a teacher was tested positive for the virus.

Pahang Education Director Datuk Abdul Aziz Abdul Latif told Bernama when contacted that the students and their parents had been told of the measures they need to take to prevent infection.

"We have asked parents to monitor their children's health and to take them to the hospital if they develop symptoms of infection such as fever and coughing," he said.

In KOTA BAHARU, four institutions of higher learning were closed recently due to the pandemic.

State secretary Datuk Mohd Aiseri Alias said the institutions involved were the Universiti of Malaya campus in Nilam Puri, Universiti Malaysia Kelantan, Pasir Mas Nursing College and Islamic Science and Technology College, he told reporters.

Abolish the ISA movement (GMI) vs Support the ISA

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 1 (Bernama) -- There were chaos in several areas in the city when more than 10,000 supporters of the Abolish the ISA movement (GMI) went ahead with their rally to hand over memorandum to the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong to abolish the law.

Their disregard to police warning to disperse, forced the security personnel to fire tear gas and water cannons at them, who had gathered in small groups, like at Masjid Jamek, Dataran Merdeka, the National Mosque and along Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, including at the Sogo shopping centre.

Attempts by the GMI to hand over the memorandum were, however, unsuccessful.

A total of 438 people, including 38 who are below 18 years old, were detained during the incident. Those detained included 37 women.

"Problems and inconveniences caused to the public, including motorists and traders, when police were doing their duty to maintain public order, are unavoidable," Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan said.

The GMI supporters began converging to the city as early at 7am and gathered at Masjid Jamek, Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Jalan Raja Laut, Jalan Kinabalu, Dataran Merdeka, before walking towards the Sogo shopping centre at 2pm to proceed to Istana Negara, but was stopped by the police.

Among those seen in the group were Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang.

A group which claimed to support the ISA, Majlis Permuafakatan Ummah (Pewaris), complied with police order and cancelled a gathering it planned to hold at the Central Market.

Its spokesman, Mohd Khairul Azam Abdul Aziz, said Pewaris would be sending 10 representatives to hand over a memorandum in support of the ISA to the Yang Dipertuan Agong.

"The gathering has been cancelled because we do not want to create a tense situation," he added.

Mohd Khairul, who is also the legal adviser for the Pembela Negara Federation of Non-Governmental Organisations Council (Magaran), was however arrested by the police at 7pm when he attempted to enter the Istana Negara compound to hand over a memorandum to retain the ISA.

Brickfields deputy police chief Supt Azri Abdul Rahman, who confirmed this, said Mohd Khairul Azam would be released after police had recorded his statement.

Several major roads leading to the city centre were closed Saturday to prevent groups supporting as well as opposing the ISA from holding illegal assemblies, causing a massive traffic jam

Traders in Jalan Masjid India and Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman were affected as they had to close their business.

Ahmad Husin, who has been operating at Masjid India since 15 years ago, regarded those responsible for organising the illegal gathering as irresponsible people.

"If they want to do it, find a suitable place as the venue," he added.

A survey to the affected areas at 6.30pm found traders there and at the Sogo shopping centre, which was ordered closed at 1.30pm, resuming their business.

The LRT stations at Bandaraya and Masjid Jamek were alco closed temporarily from 1.55pm to 6.20pm because of the incident.

"The stations are back in operation. We had to close them earlier because of security reasons," RapidKL general manager of communications Ebi Azly Abdullah said.

Meanwhile, Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Wira Mohammad Sabtu Osman said police would investigate opposition leaders who had delivered a speech in front of the GMI supporters at the PAS headquarters at Jalan Raja Laut at about 3.55pm.

They included PAS president Datuk Seri Hadi Awang, Lim, Anwar, Terengganu PAS Commissioner Datuk Mustafa Ali and PKR vice-president Tian Chua.

Mohammad Sabtu said the situation in the city now was under control.

Hadi should be forgiven for ‘cawat’ remarks: Adit

KUCHING: A member of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) State Leaders’ Council said yesterday that PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang should be forgiven for uttering the degrading ‘cawat’ remarks which had offended the Dayaks.


Gabriel Adit, the assemblyman for Ngemah, said if indeed Hadi had uttered such remarks, he should be informed of the truth and facts about Sarawak.

Adit added: “If he had said it (cawat), then he should be forgiven for his ignorance because he (Hadi) did not know what he was talking about. Forgive him. Teach him.”

“… to err is human, but to forgive is divine,” he added.

Adit said he would not debate on whether Hadi was misquoted by the press or whether the remarks were a reference to a state of mind of the people in Lubok Antu.

He said damage had been done and the people in Sarawak were very angry.

However, he pointed out, it was not what the Dayaks wear that would make him or her, a Dayak.

“If people in Peninsular Malaysia are ignorant about us (Sarawakians) we should teach (or inform) them about the truth,” he said when contacted yesterday.

A member of the State PKR political bureau, Baru Bian, said his party condemned such statements if indeed Hadi had uttered them.

“There has been so much reaction from various quarters in Sarawak on the purported statement made by PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang in the run up to the recently concluded Manek Urai by-election where he was quoted to have said the opposition lost in the Batang Ai by-election because the voters there did not know how to vote as they were still wearing ‘cawat’ (loincloth),” said Baru in a press statement yesterday.

Dayak leaders in PKR condemned such statements if indeed Hadi had said it,” he said, adding even national PKR advisor Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had made a similar stand on Saturday.

He said Anwar through a Malaysiakini report on July 25 said PKR did not subscribe to such a view and it was not in line with Pakatan Rakyat’s (PR) vision of an egalitarian Malaysia.

At the meeting of PKR State Supreme Council here on Sunday, Baru said he raised the issue and requested Anwar to convey and communicate with Hadi on the feelings of the Dayak leaders in PR.

“If such statements (including ‘cawat’) were made, it is just right and proper that the PAS president apologise as this is perceived as demeaning, degrading and insensitive to our peoples’ feeling,” he stressed.

On July 11, Hadi was quoted by news portal Malaysiakini as saying: “In all previous by-elections, the results favoured us. Only in Batang Ai did we lose because they did not know how to vote, still wearing cawat (loincloth). I am not trying to insult but those places dressed nicely voted for PAS”.

The Batang Ai by-election was held on April 7 following the demise of Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) vice-president Datuk Dublin Unting on Feb 24 after a heart attack.

It was held simultaneously with the Bukit Selambau and Bukit Gantang by-elections.

A political greenhorn from PRS, Malcolm Mussen defended the seat for BN after he won with a convincing majority of 1,854 votes over Parti Keadilan Rakyat’s (PKR) Jawah Gerang, the former five-term Lubok Antu MP.

It was also the only by-election won by BN after six by-elections following March 2008 general elections.

Following the ‘cawat’ remarks by Hadi, the State Barisan Nasional (BN) leaders wasted no time to react by providing fiery statements to the press.

Hadi’s ‘cawat’ remarks degrade Dayaks: Mawan

KUCHING: The ‘cawat’ (loincloth) issue continued to become a hot topic with Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) president Dato Sri William Mawan becoming the latest Dayak leader to lash out at PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang for making the remark.

He said the comments made by Hadi were very degrading to the Dayaks and a reflection of the opposition’s ignorance of the real situation in Sarawak.

Speaking at the launching of SPDP Muara Tuang Division Saturday night, he was very fiery and animated in his speech especially during the part when he slammed Hadi.

Using hand gestures, the Social Development and Urbanisation Minister said the ‘loincloth were at least put at the right place’ and not at other parts of the body.

But in the present modern times, he went on to say that loincloth is no longer practised and he blamed the PAS president for not understanding the standard of living of the people in Sarawak.

“Our cultural dancers only put on loincloth when performing traditional dances … (That is why) I wonder if he (Hadi) had ever visited Sarawak to understand the lives and living standard of the people.

“(To Hadi), don’t sidestep the main issue (on the factors leading to the loss in Batang Ai by-election) and talk about something else to distract the people, like talking about the loincloth,” he added.

“They are just like Pied Piper - playing the flute, entice and lure people to listen to that beautiful music yet leading them down the ravine and to the sea,” he said.

In his advice to the SPDP Muara Tuang Division, he hoped the members could work together with other BN components and form a strong BN front for the coming state election.

Although Samarahan parlimentary and Muara Tuang state constituencies are not represented by SPDP, he said the party could still play a vital role by consolidating the position of the BN in the area and ensuring the victory of BN candidates.

Muara Tuang is currently represented by Dato Sri Mohammad Ali Mahmud of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB).

The adjacent Asajaya seat is held by Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, while the Samarahan parliamentary seat is represented by Dato Sri Sulaiman Abdul Rahman Taib, both from PBB. Sulaiman is federal deputy tourism minister.

“If you look at the area, SPDP does not have any YB (elected representatives) here. But it is down to us to demonstrate our role as a fellow component in the BN by managing to rally our support in an area that does not have our YB.

“This is the spirit I call for in SPDP Muara Tuang Division - to demonstrate and put ourselves as example to others. Together we can form a strong Barisan team, a united front that will ensure victory in the next election,” he said.

He was happy to see that SPDP had members of all racial backgrounds in Sarawak.

“SPDP is one of the component parties in Malaysia that is truly multi racial. Our committees are multi racial. Our outlook, stand and principle are all multi-racial,” he added.

Hadi’s remarks reflect PAS, PR leadership: PRS women chief

KUCHING: Pakatan Rakyat (PR) can forget about making any headway in Sarawak, particularly in the Dayak majority areas, if its leaders continue to talk like PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang.

Expressing anger over Hadi’s remarks about Batang Ai voters recently, Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) women chief Doris Sophia Brodie said yesterday the remarks reflected the type of leaders PAS and PR have.

“Obviously, PAS and Pakatan are not ethnic-sensitive, thus they can forget about making their existence felt in Sarawak especially in Dayak dominant areas. On top of that, it is such remarks that stir racial tension,” she said.

“I think what Hadi said should hit the nail squarely for Dayak opposition leaders. Clearly, Pakatan and PAS do not have them or the Dayak at heart, to them the Dayaks are just to make the numbers and their laughing stock.”

In this respect, she said the PRS women of Batang Ai, Simanggang and Bukit Begunan divisions would come out in full force to support PRS Batang Ai youth in its plan to burn PAS flags in Engkilili town today to protest Hadi’s remarks.

Hadi, in a Malaysiakini report on July 11, was quoted as saying: “Semua pilihanraya kecil sebelum ini keputusannya memihak kepada kita. Cuma di Batang Ai sahaja kita kalah sebab mereka ini tidak reti undi, pakai cawat lagi. Saya bukan nak hina tetapi tempat yang pakai molek, undi PAS. (In all previous by-elections, the results favoured us. Only in Batang Ai did we lose because they did not know how to vote, still wearing loincloth. I am not trying to insult but those places where people dress nicely, vote for PAS).”

Hadi made the remarks in the run-up to the Manek Urai by-election, which PAS eventually won.

The Batang Ai by-election was held on April 7 following the demise of PRS vice-president Datuk Dublin Unting on Feb 24 after a heart attack.

The Barisan Nasional (BN) had picked Malcolm Mussen Lamoh to defend the seat.

He won by a convincing majority of 1,854 votes over Parti Keadilan Rakyat’s (PKR) Jawah Gerang, the former five-term Lubok Antu MP.

Held simultaneously with the Batang Ai by-election were by-elections in Bukit Gantang, Perak, and Bukit Selambau, Kedah.

In both seats, BN lost by a majority of more than 2,000 votes.

Leaders from all Sarawak BN parties, including Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) deputy president Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu, Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) president Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan and PRS president Dato Sri Dr James Masing have condemned the remarks.

They have demanded a public apology from Hadi as they felt that the remarks were an insult to the dignity of the Dayaks.

So far, there have been no opposition Dayak leaders who have voiced their dissatisfaction over Hadi’s remarks.

PKR Sarawak advisor Dato Sri Hafsah Harun, in fact, had defended Hadi, saying that he could have been misquoted by Malaysiakini and if indeed he had said the voters still wore ‘cawat’, he meant their old thinking in supporting the BN.

Doris yesterday also dared Hadi to come to visit Sarawak and especially Batang Ai to see the development and the lifestyle of the people for himself.

“When he comes he better be dressed ‘molek’, in case he might feel embarrassed if our people ‘outdress’ him,” she said.

PRS Batang Ai Youth plans protest against Hadi with PAS flag-burning

KUCHING: Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Batang Ai Youth is planning to torch Parti Islam SeMalaysia (PAS) flags in a show of protest in Engkilili town tomorrow.

Its deputy chief Edwin Raoh said they were very angry with the disparaging remarks made by PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang about Batang Ai voters recently.

“His statement insults the dignity of the Iban people. We are very upset and we are very offended. We are planning to burn PAS flags,” he said yesterday.

He hoped that with the burning of the flags, the people of Lubok Antu and Engkilili would realise how opposition leaders really saw them.

Hadi said in a report in Malaysiakini on July 11 that the opposition lost in the Batang Ai by-election because the voters did not know how to vote and they were still wearing ‘cawat’ (loincloth).

Also reacting to the remark was PRS information chief Richard Wil Uban who wanted to know the stand of Dayak leaders in Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), specifically Ngemah assemblyman Gabriel Adit Demong and former Lubok Antu MP Jawah Gerang.

He said that Hadi must surely know that Adit and Jawah are Ibans and yet he still made such derogatory comments about members of the community.

“I feel demoralised and looked down upon. We have been in Malaysia for 45 years and they are still talking about us as if we are cavemen.

“But what are Adit and Jawah going to do now that their friend in Pakatan Rakyat (Hadi) has insulted their dignity and the dignity of the Ibans as a whole? What do they have to say?” he asked.

Adit and Jawah could not be reached for comments yesterday. PAS, PKR, Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) and Sarawak National Party are members of Pakatan in Sarawak.

Wil added that voters had the right to vote for whoever they chose and no one should think that those who supported the government or Barisan Nasional (BN) did so blindly.

“Voting is every eligible Malaysian’s right. I can vote for the opposition if I want to. But I vote for the government not because I am a fool.

“It is those people who vote for the opposition even when they have been receiving assistance from the government of the day who are fools,” he said.

He pointed out that he spent five days in Engkari to help campaign for the BN during the Batang Ai by-election and every longhouse along the Engkari river had tiled corridors, flush toilets and other amenities.

“Where are the people wearing ‘cawat’ there? If Hadi doesn’t believe me, ask our Deputy Prime Minister (Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin) who visited the place during the by-election.

“But I wish to say this to all Dayaks of Sarawak, if we are marginalised it is because of people’s ignorance of our existence,” said Wil.

PRS secretary general Datuk Wilfred Nissom, meanwhile, said as far as he could see, no one cast their votes in their loincloths during the by-election.

At the same time, he said there were not many spoilt votes so it must mean that the people there knew how to vote.

“Actually, I think that the people in Batang Ai are very smart because they know what a constituency under PAS or Pakatan is like. They have seen the level of development in Permatang Pauh, so they decided to vote for the best, and that’s BN,” said Nissom.

Yasmin Will Be Remembered For Her Quality Works

KUALA LUMPUR, July 26 (Bernama) -- Yasmin Ahmad left a legacy of her works in the film and advertisement arenas, thriving on the themes of love, family ties and comedy against the backdrop of multiracial Malaysia.

Born in Bukit Treh, Muar, Johor on July 1 1958, Yasmin, who graduated in psychology from Newcastle University, United Kingdom, had won local and international creativity awards.

Married to Abdullah Tan Yew Leong, she began her career as a copywriter with Ogilvy & Mather before joining Leo Burnnett as joint creative director in 1993 and rose to become its creative executive director until her death.

Her creativity could be seen in many Petronas' commercials and evoked emotion of the viewers especially during the Aidilfitri celebration which would certainly be missed by viewers this year.

In the filming industry, Yasmin, however, drew much controversy in view of her openness and boldness in analysing social issues.

She was at the mercy of critics since her first movie, "Rabun" was screened in 2003 followed by "Sepet" (2004), "Gubra" (2006), "Mukhsin" (2006), "Muallaf" (2008) and Talentime (2009).

Despite the drawbacks, she also earned rave reviews for "Sepet" which was accorded the Best Film Award and the Best Original Screenplay Award at the Malaysian Film Festival 2005.

"Sepet" also bagged several international awards, namely the Asian Film Award at the Tokyo International Film Festival 2005, the Grand Prix Award at the Creteil International Women's Film Festival in the same year.

"Gubra" won the Best Screenplay award at the Malaysian Film Festival 2006.

"Muhsin" won the Generation kplus - Best Feature Film and the Deutsches Kinderhilfswerk Grand Prix award at the Berlin International Film Festival.

"Mukhsin" also won the Best Asean Film at the Cinemanila International Film Festival 2007.

"Muallaf" won the Asian Film Award - Special Mention at the Tokyo International Film Festival 2008.

While leaving indelible mark at home, Yasmin's movies gained international recognition as they were shown in Berlin, San Francisco, Singapore and at the Cannes Film Festival.
